How should I prepare my skin for a chemical peel?

You can prepare your skin for a chemical peel by cleansing twice a day, avoiding sun exposure, and applying sunscreen daily. You should avoid the use of products containing retinoids, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid, and avoid any waxing, scrubbing, or exfoliating for at least 72 hours before your appointment.

What happens during a chemical peel?

After cleansing the face, or other area to be treated, a peeling agent is applied. You'll likely feel a slight tingling or burning sensation when the peel is applied. Depending on the type of peel used, it may be washed off or left on the skin. The procedure usually lasts about 20 minutes.

When will I start peeling after a chemical peel?

The peeling process will begin 1-3 days after your appointment, or 5-7 days after your appointment when applied to the body. Your skin will appear dry and flaky during this time. While you can expect to return to your normal activities immediately after your peel, we recommend that you keep your skin moisturized and avoid sun exposure for at least 7 days.

What can I expect in the first 24 hours after my chemical peel?

Your skin will feel tighter and appear more red than usual, and you may experience a feeling of warmth. Depending on the type of peel used, your skin may feel tacky and have a yellowish orange tinge that subsides in a few hours.
